Cameo Elzinga, Director of Young Voices and Melodia
Cameo Haaksma Elzinga joined GRYC in 2021 and directs our youngest ensembles, Young Voices and Melodia. She has been a member of the music faculty at Grand Rapids Community College since 2008, where she teaches piano courses and music appreciation. Cameo began her career teaching elementary and middle school music and choir in public schools, and enjoys teaching musical learners of all ages and abilities. Cameo received a Bachelor’s degree in vocal music education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. She received a Master’s degree in piano performance with emphasis in piano pedagogy and music education from Western Michigan University, where she received the Excellence in Teaching award. In addition to her teaching, Cameo enjoys accompanying a variety of ensembles and soloists. She lives in Grand Rapids with her husband and four young children.
