Our Choirs
The Grand Rapids Youth Choruses is a choral organization for young people which seeks to promote excellence in singing and appreciation of music from all around the world. We offer several family concerts each season in addition to special concerts with professional musicians. Collaborating with professional musicians teaches our young singers to aspire to their highest level of musicianship.
Tuition
This is a tuition based program running September – April. The tuition ranges from $400-$625.
Choirs Grouped by Age and Experience
Young Voices is an introductory choir for singers in Kindergarten and 1st grade. In this ensemble, participants will learn to match pitch and explore their ranges and vocal timbre. Foundational vocal technique will be introduced through rehearsals and music games.
Melodia is an ensemble for 2nd and 3rd graders, and is open to 1st graders by audition and invitation from the director. Basic vocal technique is introduced and practiced, with a focus on unison singing and an introduction to two part singing.
Mosaic Singers is an ensemble for 4th-6th graders. Singers learn about tone, blending, basic vocal technique and musical literacy. We practice solfege, sight reading, unison and two and three part harmony, with a focus on becoming an independent singer.
Our flagship ensemble, the Youth Chorus, is comprised of singers from 7th grade through high school. We practice and refine our vocal technique and tone, music literacy skills, and general artistry. This group learns a large amount of repertoire, makes appearances in professional concerts several times a year, and participates in domestic and international tours as part of our commitment to a global education and experience.
Mandala is our only audition-based choir, comprised of treble singers from 7th through 12th grade who demonstrate excellent vocal technique and sight-reading ability. Mandala performs on all GRYC concerts, offers one stand alone concert per year, and acts as an ambassador for GRYC for various public events.
In our GRYC concerts, all the choirs sing individually as well as together. These concerts feature music from all around the world, as we seek to educate our singers about other cultures. We believe that all people are more alike than different, and together we can make the world a more beautiful place.
